Explore Local Park Series - Pine Run Reservoir

A Field Trip to Pine Run Reservoir & Covered Bridge Park

Pine Run is a small (39 acre) lake bordered to the south and east by seasonal mudflats and large patches of weedy, dry fields and grassy, wet fields. There is an elevated path that runs along the southeastern shore of the lake from Iron Hill Rd. The property is owned by Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority and is open to the public.

Trip Leaders: James Hamilton & Vin Pannerselvam

Details: We will start the birding from the Covered Bridge Park sharply at 7:30 AM. It is a leisurely walk from though the woods at the beginning, then about a mile walk in the sun on the paved trail overlooking the meadows and the reservoir and back. As spring migration wrapping up, we will pick up some stragglers and nesting migrants. Our target is to get some warblers, vireos and other passerines such as Baltimore, Orchard Orioles. Thanks to our partnership with Bucks County Operations, the meadows will not be mowed until late fall. So we should be able to get some grassland birds as well - Marsh Wrens, Savannah sparrows, Bobolinks, and Eastern meadowlarks are potentials.

Bring your binoculars, but we also have some spare binoculars if you need one. Don’t forget your summer hiking essentials - breathable clothing, a water bottle, a hat, and bug spray.

Join us for a fun and enjoyable bird walk!

DIRECTIONS: From the intersection of US 202 and PA 611, go west on US 202 for 1.8-2.0 miles (depending on whether you are going north or south on PA 611) and turn right on Keeley Ave. Covered Bridge Parking area is about 0.5 miles on your right. It’s just before the stop sign for the covered bridge.
